Here I'm carving the final details in my shop before the preparation for painting. The wood used in this mermaid is Basswood that has been kiln dried. This type of wood was used for Carousel Animals and other types of wood carvings.

The gallery of images to the right show the different stages of the work in progress.

This is the completed piece with the glass top in place. The paint is acrylic pearlescent and was applied in two layers to create an under water, translucent quality.
