Islandwood, A School in the Woods

Entry sign, red cedar, 96

Signage

I did a variety of tasks on almost all of the signage. Island Wood covers roughly 270 acres of ground at the southern part of Bainbridge Island. The main entry sign (see picture) was carved out of a single slab of old growth cedar. I also created other signage throughout the property for trails, exhibits and other uses.

Carved Fireplace Mantel, Madrona Wood, 72

Fireplace Mantels

There are 7 fireplace mantels, one in each of the main buildings on the school property. Large sections of madrona trees and trunks were used for the mantels. Each mantel has carvings at each end representing wildlife from the local environment.
